Girdwood PTA announced that they are one of the top 200 earnings groups nationally in the recent Safeway 10 percent Back to Schools Program.
As one of the top 200 groups, Safeway has contributed an additional $1,000 for a grand total of $3,881.60. In 2008, through this program alone, the Safeway family of stores has donated over $2.5 million to non-profit groups across the nation.
Girdwood PTA planned to use the funds to purchase a Smart Board for use in classrooms. With the remaining money and the additional $1,000, we can purchase another Smart Board. Girdwood teachers are excited about using this new technology to enhance and expand their teaching methods and students are enthusiastic about the innovative way their lessons are being presented.
“We appreciate all that Safeway (Girdwood’s Safeway is officially Crow Creek Mercantile) does and for their ongoing commitment to education and our local school,” said Debora Davis, Girdwood PTA Treasurer. “Because of the Merc’s participation in the eScrip program and our commitment to sign up many of our school and community families with eScrip, we had a huge and unexpected boost to our treasury and we are thrilled with the program.”
Safeway 10 percent Back to Schools program allowed schools to earn 10 percent of items purchased by school supporters from participating manufacturers this past summer. Top Safeway manufacturers contributing to the Girdwood PTA program included Kraft Foods, Clorox, Kellogg’s, General Mills, Sara Lee and Unilever.
In addition to the 10 percent Back to Schools Program, the eScrip program delivers marketing programs that bring retailers, manufacturers and service providers forward in support of education of youth. To date, the eScrip program has generated more than $200 million in merchant contributions to school and organizations across the country.
