A car that missed the road upon exiting the Whittier Tunnel Jan. 31. had to be assisted off the railroad tracks.

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Operating With a Suspended License
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 14, at approximately 7:30 p.m. a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 81 mph in a posted 65 mph zone near mile 92 of the Seward Highway in the safety corridor. An investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Michael L. Wirz, age 19, of Kenai, was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Wirz was issued a summons to appear in court. Wirz was also issued a traffic citation for speeding. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Motor Vehicle Collision, DUI
GIRDWOOD—On Feb. 14 at 10:45 p.m., a Trooper responded to a single vehicle rollover near mile 72 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed David Roger McDonough, age 41 of Anchor Point, had lost control of a 1997 Ford Aerostar and rolled the vehicle on the highway. McDonough was not injured but was found to be driving while under the influence of alcohol. The van was totaled. McDonough was arrested for DUI and later remanded to the Anchorage Jail held on $1,000 bail.
