It’s nice to see the future plans for Girdwood. We are growing, new families with kids, the future of Girdwood.
We need to think of them as our future and protect them, keeping them safe as they wait for the bus, unseen in the dark.
On my way to school, I have waited behind the bus as it picks up kids. For some reason people think yellow flashing lights mean “go” and “pass” and they do it very fast not thinking of the kids waiting so close to the road.
As I greeted the kids at school today, one of them came up to me and said a car almost hit her at the bus stop, she was scared, ran home (missed the bus) and called an Aunt to give her a ride to school.
For the safety of our kids we need to slow down!
Maybe we can add to the future plans, signs along the road warning people “Kids waiting for bus, slow down to 20 mph when lights flashing”, as they do in Anchorage. They also have a speed limit of 25 mph in residential areas. Something to think about.
We lost three children before we built a bike path, slow down before we loose more.
