The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

BIRD—On Sept. 12 at 3:18 p.m., a Trooper contacted a man passed out in a 1993 Honda Accord located at .5 mi. Bird Ridge hiking trail. An investigation revealed Michael John Mills, age 40 of Anchorage, was under the influence of alcohol while operating the vehicle. He was arrested for Felony DUI and Driving with a revoked license. Mills was also issued a citation driving his car on a hiking path within the Chugach State Park. He was transported to the Anchorage Jail and held on $10,000 cash bail.
PORTAGE—On Sept. 13 at approximately 4:23 p.m., a Trooper contacted an occupied vehicle in distress near mile 2 of the Portage Valley Road. During the course of the contact it was determined that Calvin W. Elliott, age 46 of Anchorage, had driven the vehicle to its current location when his driver’s license was in a revoked status. Elliott was summonsed to appear in court on the charge of Driving With a Revoked Operators License and released from the scene.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 15 at 5:44 a.m. the Alaska State Trooper Dispatch Center in Soldotna received a call from Brenda Marsch of Anchorage, reporting two overdue hikers. Leonard Larson and Michael Dumas, both from out of state, were hiking the Crow Creek Trail from Girdwood to Eagle River. The two men went off trail and had to double back, which lengthened their hike considerably. An Alaska State Trooper helicopter was dispatched out of Soldotna. The two men were located and transported to Anchorage.
COOPER LANDING—On Sept. 18, a Cooper Landing based State Trooper contacted Michael
Hall, 40, of Soldotna, after the vehicle he was driving became disabled in the middle of the road at mile 54 of the Sterling Highway. Department records revealed Hall had an outstanding $150 warrant for failure to appear for a traffic ticket. Hall was transported to Wildwood and remanded without incident.
COOPER LANDING—On Sept. 18 at approximately 6:15 a.m., a Cooper Landing based
State Trooper contacted a Michael Hall, 40, of Soldotna, after the vehicle he was driving became disabled in the middle of the road near 54.0 mile of the Sterling Hwy. Department records revealed Hall did not have a valid driver’s license. Hall was issued a summons to appear in court for NVOL.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 19 at 7:28 p.m., Troopers responded to a single vehicle collision with a moose near mile 76 Seward Highway. An investigation revealed Abigale A. Mason, age 32 of Anchorage, was driving a 2004 Chevy Astro van northbound near mile 76 Seward Highway when a
moose entered the roadway and was struck by her vehicle. Mason was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries that were treated on scene by Girdwood EMS. Damages to the Astro van were estimated at 12,000. The moose was donated to a local charity. No citations were issued.
COOPER LANDING—On Sept. 14, Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted 57-year-old Joseph Breidinger of Anchorage fishing on the Kenai River near Cooper Landing. An investigation revealed Breidinger did not have a valid sport fishing license. Breidinger was issued a summons for Sport Fishing Without a Valid License in his possession, bail was set at $210.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 21 at approximately 2:15 a.m., a Trooper from responded to the area of Arlberg Ave. in Girdwood for the report of a single vehicle rollover crash. The reporter stated that a male walking from the vicinity of the crash appeared to be intoxicated. A scene investigation revealed a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer had been traveling west on Arlberg Ave. when it entered the ditch for undetermined reasons and rolled one time. Efforts to contact the owner and / or operator of the
vehicle have not been successful. An investigation is ongoing.
WHITTIER—On Sept. 17, Edward Long, 55, of Whittier was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Long was also cited for failure to have a biodegradable escape mechanism on a shrimp pot. Bail is set at $220 at Anchorage District Court.
WHITTIER—On Sept. 19, Kimala Wilkinson, 53, of Anchorage was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Bail is set at $110 at Anchorage District Court.
Sport Fishing Shrimp Gear During Closed Season
WHITTIER—On Sept. 19, William Wilkinson, 52, of Anchorage was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Bail is set at $110 at Anchorage District Court.
WHITTIER—On Sept. 21, Grigorios Gannulis, 45, of Eagle River was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Gannulis was also cited for fishing shrimp gear that did not meet the escape mechanism requirements. Bail is set at $220 at Anchorage District Court.
WHITTIER—On Sept. 24 at approximately 9:50 a.m., Shaka Levshakoff, 26 of Whittier, was contacted in a Fairview-area residence by members of the Alaska State Trooper-Alaska Bureau of Investigation and Anchorage Police Dept. detectives from both the Special Victims Unit and the Crimes Against Children Unit. Leveshakoff was taken into custody without incident in connection with a 2007 homicide investigation.
An investigation resulted in troopers obtaining an arrest warrant for Levshakoff for Murder in the Second Degree, Manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide, in connection with the homicide of two-year-old Anne Marie Nimmo in Whittier.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 24, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 80mph in a posted 65 mph zone near mile 62 of the Seward Highway. An investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Sherry M. Maestas, age 32 of Kenai, was operating with a revoked driver’s license. Maestas was issued a summons to appear in court. Maestas was also issued a traffic citation for speeding. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
WHITTIER—On Sept. 25, Steven Miessner, 54, of Anchorage was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Bail is set at $110 at Anchorage District Court.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 27 at approximately 5:10 p.m., a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 94 mph in a posted 65 mph zone near mile 81 of the Seward Highway. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Antonio A. Alvarez, age 36 of Anchorage. Alvarez was found to be operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Alvarez was arrested for DUI and Reckless Driving. Alvarez was transported and remanded into Anchorage Jail with bail set at $2,500 cash and release when sober.
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 28 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Trooper Girdwood conducted a traffic stop on a 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity sedan near mile 81 of the Seward Highway for speeding. An investigation following the stop revealed the driver of the car Todd Wright, age 47 of Whittier, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Wright was arrested and eventually transported to the Anchorage Jail where he was remanded with a bail of $1,500.
