Trooper Report

The Alaska State Troopers reported the following incidents. Any charges reported are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Fishing Shrimp Gear During Closed Season
WHITTIER—On Sept. 28, George Krohn, 49, of Wasilla was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for sport fishing shrimp gear during a closed season. Bail is set at $110.00 at Anchorage District Court.

DUI
GIRDWOOD—On Sept. 28 at approximately 5 p.m., Mark Wayne Webb, age 50 of Kenai, was stopped by a Trooper near Girdwood Tesoro driving a 1989 GMC pickup after being reported a REDDI driver. An investigation revealed Webb was driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and was subsequently arrested for DUI. He was later remanded to the Anchorage Jail held on $3,500 bail.

Reckless Driving
GIRDWOOD—On Oct. 4 at 6:57 p.m. State Troopers arrested Eric T. James, age 36 of Anchorage, for Reckless Driving. The incident started near mile 106 of the Seward Highway when troopers received two separate citizen complaints about a 2005 orange Volkswagen beetle speeding and passing in a no pass zone almost causing two separate head on collisions. State Troopers located the vehicle near mile 93 Seward Highway and stop the vehicle for speeding 103 mph in a posted 65 mph zone in the safety corridor. James was arrested for Reckless Driving and remanded into Anchorage Jail with bail set at $500 cash.

DUI Felony
COOPER LANDING—On Oct. 3 at approximately 5:26 p.m., Troopers received the report of a REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) near mile 45 of the Sterling Highway. The vehicle, a gray 1990 Toyota Tercel, was contacted at a pullout near mile 37 of the Seward Highway. The driver and only occupant, Steven Spratt, age 45 of Anchorage, was contacted. An investigation revealed Spratt was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was impaired. A records check revealed Spratt had prior convictions making this arrest a felony. Spratt was placed under arrest, transported to the Seward City Jail and remanded. Bail to be set at arraignment on Oct. 4.

Motor Vehicle Crash
GIRDWOOD—On Oct. 6 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a Trooper investigated a motor vehicle crash near mile 101 of the Seward Highway. The Trooper was at the scene of another crash at the same location at the time. A scene investigation revealed James Johnson, age 71 of Girdwood, was traveling north on the Seward Highway when he lost control of his 2003 Dodge pickup on an icy roadway and impacted the guardrail. Damage to Johnson’s vehicle is estimated at $3,000 and damage to the guardrail is estimated at $1,500. Johnson was not injured and drove his vehicle from the scene.

Motor Vehicle Collision
GIRDWOOD—On Oct. 6 at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Trooper responded to mile 101 of the Seward Highway for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving injuries. A scene investigation revealed that Jaime Solis, age 51 of Homer, was traveling north on the Seward Highway in his 1991 Nissan Pathfinder when he lost control on icy roadways and impacted the guardrail. The vehicle then entered the ditch and rolled one time. The vehicle was a total loss. Damage to the guardrail is estimated at several thousand dollars. Passengers Carmen Ruiz-Ruelas, age 52, and Raini Reynolds, age 18, were not injured. Passenger Jorge Tanori, age 18, was transported to an Anchorage area hospital for evaluation.

Expected Home Death
COOPER LANDING—On Oct. 9 at approximately 9:04 a.m., Troopers in Seward were notified of an expected home death with Comfort One paperwork on file. The deceased was identified as Evelyn Rummage, age 87 of Cooper Landing. Next of kin was with Rummage at the time of her death. No foul play is suspected. The body was released to Peninsula Memorial Funeral Home.

Motor Vehicle Crash/Injury
GIRDWOOD—On Oct. 12 at 8:26 a.m., a Trooper responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle rollover with injuries near mile 61.5 of the Seward Highway. The crash investigation determined Keith M. Anderson (age 21 of Anchorage, AK) was operating a mid 90’s sport utility vehicle traveling northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, struck a dirt embankment, and overturned. Anderson sustained minor injuries but refused a medical transport. Two adult male passengers in the vehicle were transported to an Anchorage area hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was totaled. Anderson was issued a mandatory court appearance traffic citation for Negligent Driving.
