Cooper Landing midtown view from the Bean Creek Road overlook is February’s

Things have been pretty quiet around here while we were in the period of sub-zero temperatures. Meetings were cancelled and the Monday quilters didn’t even venture out although the Friday Yoga group continued to meet at the community hall.

Ice fishing good on local lakes
Fishing is good through the ice on Kenai Lake and up at Carter and Crescent Lakes. Snowmachiners are also braving the cold for fun and reconnaissance into the bowl above Lost Lake. A few moose were seen locally and a couple ended up cut and wrapped after being salvaged road kills.

Cooper Landing Historical Society meeting
Sat. Jan 17, at 2 p.m. the Cooper Landing Historical Society meets at the community hall for business and a program on the history of Camp Fire in Cooper Landing. Camp Kushtaka on Snug Harbor Road has been offering summer camping experiences for over forty years to girls and boys seven to 18 years old. Kids have learned cold-water survival techniques, kayaking skills, horsemanship, archery, crafts and more. Everyone is welcome to attend the short business meeting and the program.

Cooper Landing Community Club meeting
Cooper Landing Community Club meets Thursday, Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m. at the community hall. The agenda includes election of officers for the next two years and a report by Deb Carlson on local trails and a walkable community. I’m planning a special going out office party so come and celebrate with us.

Seward newborn, first baby born in 2009
Congratulations to our granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Stephen Latimer, on the birth of Daunte Gabrael Latimer on Jan. 1. Daunte was the first baby born in Alaska in 2009 and is now at home in Seward with his folks. He’s a beauty!
