Trooper Report

The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 15 at 4:05 p.m., Troopers responded to a single vehicle collision located at mile 75 Seward Highway. An investigation revealed Timothy Don Boswell, age 25 of Texas was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound when he lost control of the vehicle on the ice and slid into a ditch, rolling the vehicle. Damages were estimated at $2,500. All occupants reported wearing their seat belts and had no injuries. No citations were issued.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 16 at 1:45 p.m. Troopers responded to mile 80 Seward Highway for the report of a semi tractor trailer rolled onto its side. An investigation revealed Lawrence John Bean, age 58 of Anchorage was driving a 1998 Kenworth tractor and trailer southbound when he swerved to miss a car in his lane during severe crosswinds and snow causing the trailer tires to go into the ditch. The tractor and trailer rolled onto its side blocking the southbound lane of travel. The highway was temporarily closed while the vehicle was removed from the ditch. Damages are estimated at $15,000. Bean was wearing his seat belt and reported no injuries.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 16 at 10:52 a.m. Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision near mile 84 Seward Highway near Girdwood. An investigation revealed Sean Peter Dusek, age 39 of Sterling was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition northbound when he slowed for stopped traffic at a blind corner obscured by snow gusts. The Expedition was subsequently rear ended by a 2003 Honda Pilot driven by Ronald John Reierson, age 55 of Seward. Both vehicles received approximately $1,500 in damages. All occupants reported wearing their seat belts and had no injuries. No citations were issued.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 21 at approximately 12:10 p.m., a Trooper investigated a motor vehicle crash near mile 69 of the Seward Highway. The investigation revealed that Sean Robles, age 34 of Wasilla, was driving North on the Seward Highway when he came upon a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway. While attempting to stop, the trailer of his commercial motor vehicle slid sideways and struck a brown Chevrolet Suburban, owned by 32 year old Anthony Larson of Anchorage, which was parked on the edge of the highway adjacent to the other stopped vehicle. The unknown vehicle stopped in the road left the scene as the crash occurred and according to witnesses at the scene probably did not know they had caused the crash as they were scared due to the poor weather and road conditions. Heavy snow and limited visibility were both conditions present at the time of the crash. All persons involved reported wearing their seat belts. Citations were not issued.

Assault: On Feb. 22 at 2 a.m. a Trooper responded to a residence on Old West Road in Girdwood for the report of a disturbance. An investigation revealed a 28 year old female had been assaulted. Ricky Medieros, age 25 of Girdwood, was arrested for assault 4th Degree. The female did not need medical treatment. Medeiros was transported to Anchorage Jail and held on $750 bail plus CATP.

Arrest Warrant: On Feb. 21, Mykel Sorrels, 18, of Soldotna was arrested by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, on two warrants issued for failure to appear in court. Sorrels was transported to the Anchorage Jail where he was remanded on $550 bail.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On March 2 at 10:00 a.m. Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle rollover near mile 92 of the Seward Highway. This area of the Seward Highway is within the Seward Highway Traffic Safety Corridor. The crash investigation revealed Kathryn C. Hovey (age 24 of Anchorage) was operating a late model pick up truck traveling northbound. Hovey was not able to maintain control of the vehicle on the slushy/wet pavement. Hovey went off the northbound side of the highway. The vehicle skidded on its right side for a short distance and then came to rest on its tires. Hovey was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On March 2 at 8:30 a.m. Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle rollover near mile 80 of the Seward Highway. The crash investigation revealed Jacob D. Walker (age 27 of Anchorage) was operating a late 90’s model sport utility vehicle traveling northbound. Walker was not able to maintain control of the vehicle on the slushy pavement. Walker crossed the oncoming traffic lane and went off the southbound side of the highway. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its right side. Walker and his adult female passenger were using seat belts and were uninjured.
