Trooper Report

The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.

Driving While License Suspended: On Jan. 31 at 11:20 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1996 Mazda pickup for a moving violation and for an equipment violation near mile 114 Seward Highway. Investigation revealed Richard E. Recknagle, age 18 of Anchorage, was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Recknagle was issued a summons for Driving While License Suspended. He was also issued citations for No Proof of Insurance and Plates Properly Attached and Displayed.

Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance: On Feb. 3 at 6:44 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1999 Ford F-150 near mile 2 Alyeska Hwy for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver, Donald E. Sherwood III, age 19 of Girdwood, was in possession of 58.5 grams of marijuana. Sherwood was arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 5th Degree and transported to Anchorage for a bail hearing. Sherwood was later released on his own recognizance.

Criminal Trespass/Criminal Mischief/Assault: On Feb. 7 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Trooper responded to a residence in Bird following a report from an adult female that her ex-boyfriend had entered her residence without permission. The investigation is ongoing.

Warrant Arrest/REDDI: On Feb. 10 at 6:38 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2007 GMC pickup near mile 105 Seward Highway after it had been called in as a REDDI. Investigation revealed the driver, Rodney Lee McDaniel Jr., age 18 of Kodiak, possessed marijuana. Further investigation revealed a passenger in the vehicle, Chaz M. Dumont, age 19 of Wasilla also possessed marijuana and had an outstanding arrest warrant for $200 (original charge of Minor Consuming Alcohol). McDaniel and Armstrong were both issued a summons for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI. Dumont was arrested for the warrant and transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody. McDaniel received a citation for failure to show Proof of Insurance.

Minor Consuming/Possessing Alcohol and Marijuana: On Feb. 10 at 5:40 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2004 Honda Civic for an equipment violation near mile 97 Seward Highway. Investigation revealed a passenger Joshua R. Armstrong, age 19 of Wasilla, was in possession of marijuana and alcohol. Armstrong was issued a summons to appear in court for Minor Consuming/Possessing Alcohol and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI. The offences occurred within a Traffic Safety Corridor.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 9 at 8:45 p.m., a Trooper responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a moose at mile 89 Seward Hwy near Girdwood. Investigation revealed John Stanley Reffett, age 60 of Eagle River, was driving a 1985 Nissan pickup northbound on the Seward Hwy when a moose entered the roadway and was struck by the pickup. Reffett was wearing his seat belt and reported no injuries. Damages totaled approximately $1000. No citations were issued.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 16 at 1:45 p.m., a Trooper responded to mile 80 Seward Highway for the report of a semi tractor trailer rolled onto its side. Investigation revealed Lawrence John Bean, age 58 of Anchorage, was driving a 1998 Kenworth tractor and trailer southbound when he swerved to miss a car in his lane during severe crosswinds and snow causing the trailer tires to go into the ditch. The tractor and trailer rolled onto its side blocking the southbound lane of travel. The highway was temporarily closed while the vehicle was removed from the ditch. Damages are estimated at $15,000. Bean was wearing his seat belt and reported no injuries.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 16 at 10:52 a.m., a Trooper responded to a two vehicle collision near mile 84 Seward Highway near Girdwood. Investigation revealed Sean Peter Dusek, age 39 of Sterling, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition northbound when he slowed for stopped traffic at a blind corner obscured by snow gusts. The Expedition was subsequently rear ended by a 2003 Honda Pilot driven by Ronald John Reierson, age 55 of Seward. Both vehicles received approximately $1500.00 in damages. All occupants reported wearing their seat belts and had no injuries. No citations were issued.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Feb. 15 at around 4:00 p.m., a Trooper responded to a single vehicle collision located at mile 75 Seward Highway. Investigation revealed Timothy Don Boswell, age 25 of Texas, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound when he lost control of the vehicle on the ice and slid into a ditch, rolling the vehicle. Damages were estimated at $2,500. All occupants reported wearing their seat belts and had no injuries. No citations were issued.

False Statement: On Feb. 13, Thor Eide, 25 of Moose Pass, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for making a false statement on his 2007 resident sport fish and hunt license. Bail is set at $310 in Anchorage District Court.
