Trooper Report

The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.

DUI/Misconduct Involving a Weapon: On Dec. 14 at 1:22 a.m. a Trooper responded to a motor vehicle collision located on Alberg Road near Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. An investigation revealed Chester Henry McDonough, age 23 of Girdwood, was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on Alberg Rd. when he lost control of his vehicle on the roadway and collided into the guard rail in the southbound lane. At the conclusion of an investigation, McDonough was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and for Misconduct Involving a Weapon 4th Degree. The vehicle was impounded. McDonough was later remanded to Anchorage Jail where he was held on $750 bail.

Domestic Assault 3rd Degree, Probation Violation: On Dec. 19 at approximately 1:33 a.m., a Trooper responded to a residence near mile 3 of the Alyeska Highway following a report from a female, Girdwood area, resident that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, William Chythlook-Jones, age 27 also of Girdwood. Following an investigation, Chythlook-Jones was arrested on the charge of Domestic Assault 3rd Degree and for a Probation Violation. He was transported to the Anchorage Court where his bail was sent at $ 8,500. He was then remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Additional criminal charges against Chythlook-Jones involving the same female are being explored and may be forthcoming.

False Statement: Dec. 20, Venessa Daniel, 32, of Anchorage was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post for making a false statement on her 2006 resident sport fishing license. Bail is set at $310 at Kenai District Court.

Driving with Suspended License: On Dec. 17 at 11:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 1998 Dodge Stratus for speeding near mile 98 Seward Highway near Girdwood. An investigation revealed the driver, Joshua Honon Dey, age 30 of Soldotna, was driving on a suspended driver’s license. Dey was issued a summons to appear in court and the car was released to a valid driver.

DUI, Refusal to Submit to A Chemical Test: On Dec. 22 at 10:38 p.m., a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 Dodge pickup, for an equipment violation, on Olympic Mountain Road near Arlberg Road in Girdwood. An investigation revealed the driver, Kristian Walker Sieling, age 35 of Girdwood, was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Sieling was arrested for DUI and transported to Girdwood Post for processing. During processing Sieling was charged for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Sieling was transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded until sober. Sieling was also issued citations for Inoperative Taillight and for Refusal to Submit to a Preliminary Breath Test.

Driving While License Revoked: On Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2000 Dodge Neon for not having a front plate displayed near mile 63 Seward Highway. An investigation revealed the driver, James Patrick Williamson, age 55 of Soldotna, was driving while his license was revoked. Williamson was issued a summons to appear in court for DWLR and was released on scene. The car was released to a valid driver.

Warrant Arrest: On Dec. 21 at 11:20 p.m., a Trooper contacted Rodney R Chappell, age 44 of Anchorage. Investigation revealed Chappell had an outstanding $500 APD Warrant (original charge Assault & DWLR). He was arrested and transported to Anchorage Jail where he was remanded into custody.

Motor Vehicle Crash with Injuries: On Dec. 26 at approximately 4:49 p.m., a Trooper responded to mile 87 of the Seward Highway for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving injuries. An investigation revealed that Rachel Debenham, age 20 of Anchorage, had been traveling North on the Seward Highway when she lost control of the late model Dodge minivan she was operating. She entered the Southbound lane and collided with a red Ford pickup operated by Daniel Reynolds, age 27 of Kenai. Reynolds’ passenger, Heather Edwards age 21 of Kenai, received minor injuries. She was evaluated by Girdwood EMS and released at the scene. Debenham was carrying five juvenile passengers, none of which were injured. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Search and Rescue: On Dec. 29 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Troopers from Girdwood and the U.S. Forest Service, Moose Pass Fire/EMS responded to a mountain valley area near mile 61 of the Seward Highway following a report that a skier had been caught in an avalanche and had suffered a traumatic injury. Other people traveling with the injured skier were with the victim to provide first aid. A Trooper from Girdwood responded to the general area of the injured person, who was determined to be Rory Stark, age 36 of Anchorage, but was unable to access Stark because of the terrain. A Pavehawk helicopter from the Rescue Coordination Center was summoned to the area. Stark was then hoisted into the helicopter and transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment of a broken leg. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the Rescue Coordination Center, USFS, Moose Pass Fire / EMS, and good Samaritans who responded to the scene of the incident to help.

Fatal Snowmachine Crash: On Dec. 29 at approximately 3 p.m., Troopers from Girdwood and Seward responded to a location near mile 69 of the Seward Highway for an initial report of an injured snow machine rider. Upon arrival at the scene it was determined that a 16 year old male from Anchorage had been involved in a snow machine crash and had died of injuries he sustained as a result of the crash. The investigation is continuing.

Warrant Arrest: On Dec. 30 at around 8:22 p.m. Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 104 of the Seward Highway for a moving violation. The driver was identified as Margaret J. Girves, age 48, of Anchorage. Girves was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest for fail to appear for an arraignment. Girves was arrested and transported to the Anchorage Jail. Bail was set at $1,500 cash corporate.

Motor Vehicle Collision: On Dec. 30 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision at Mile 91 of the Seward Highway. An investigation determined that a 2001 Ford explorer, driven by Cody J. Leblanc, age 16 of Anchorage, was traveling northbound when he lost control on an icy corner and struck the guard rail. Both the driver and his passenger reported wearing their seatbelts and having no injuries.
