The following incidents were reported to Detachment E of the Alaska State Troopers.
Motor Vehicle Collision: On Jan. 2 at 4 p.m. Troopers from Cooper Landing and Girdwood, along with Cooper Landing and Moose Pass EMS responded to 59 mile of the Seward Highway following reports of a motor vehicle collision. Investigation revealed Melissa Montgomery, 19 years of age of Anchorage, was operating a 1995 Nissan, was traveling north bound when she lost control of the vehicle due to the icy road conditions. Montgomery crossed the center line and into the oncoming lane of traveling colliding with an Areawide Tow truck being operated by Theodore Blueford II, 35, of Anchorage, causing the tow truck to go over a small embankment and come to rest in Cannon Creek. Occupants from both vehicles did not report any injuries and all occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Motor Vehicle Crash: On Jan. 8 at 11:48 a.m. Troopers responded to a Motor vehicle crash within the Seward Highway Traffic Safety Corridor near mile 105.5. The crash investigation revealed Cynthia H. Kahn, age 53 of Anchorage, was operating a late model sport utility vehicle heading northbound. James V. Peet, age 44 of Anchorage, was operating an older model pickup truck heading southbound. Kahn was traveling too fast for roadway conditions. Kahn failed to maintain control of her vehicle on the icy highway and entered the oncoming southbound traffic lane. Kahn’s vehicle collided with Peet’s southbound vehicle. Both Vehicles sustained more than $500 damage each. Kahn was cited for Basic Speed.
Operating with a Revoked License: On Jan. 10 at approximately 4:50 p.m. Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at mile 100 of the Seward Highway. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Mark W. Girard, age 38 of Anchorage, was operating with a revoked driver’s license. Girard was issued a summons to appear in court. Girard was also issued a traffic citation for speeding.
Motor Vehicle Collision: On Jan. 12 at around 4:45 p.m. a Trooper contacted Allison Perry, age 47 of Anchorage, near mile 68 of the Seward Highway Prior to AST arrival she had been operating her 2005 Honda Pilot SUV and was involved in a Motor Vehicle Collision in which she struck a guard rail adjacent the highway. Damage to her vehicle is estimated at $1,500 and the guard rail did not appear to be damaged. An investigation revealed that Perry’s Arizona drivers license is in a suspended status. Perry was summons to appear in court on the charge of DWSL and released from the scene.
Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 4th Degree: On Jan. 12 at approximately 3:30 pm. Troopers from Girdwood and Cooper Landing responded to a Hope area residence following a report that a male there was not breathing. Hope Fire / EMS and Providence Life Guard also responded. Providence Life Guard transported Jesse Davis, age 20 of Anchorage, to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment of a suspected prescription medication overdose. He is expected to recover. An investigation is ongoing.
