Happy Holidays to all!
The Roundhouse at Alyeska is all dressed up for the holidays. It’s the perfect place to bring your family and friends. Tell them your stories, new and old, of the Girdwood Community. There are photos displayed that have dates with interesting information to share. View the informative movie about the early days in Girdwood and hear the stories about the strong desire to have a ski area in “Glacier City”.
New display items are being donated and loaned for your viewing pleasure. Paul Crews has loaned a pare of seal skin boots, similar to those used by the early settlers; Yvan Safar gave the Roundhouse a cable display. The cable had been damaged by a helicopter that he and Chris von Imhof were flying in, near Turnagain Pass, spring of 1973. There will be more items added as the winter progresses. If you have any items, regarding the community you would like to have on display, please contact me at dir@roundhouseatalyeska.org.
Don’t forget our little gift shop on top of the mountain. There are vintage signs for your cabin and home. Or fun and whimsical ski ornaments for your favorite friends. There is a collection of silver snowflakes you won’t want to miss, either! Come support the Roundhouse with a special gift from the top of the mountain.
Would you like to volunteer with some fun projects for the Roundhouse? Here are just some of the projects you can be a part of this winter:
1. It is quite enjoyable to visit with guests at the Roundhouse. Come reminisce about the past and share new information. What a beautiful place to call “work”! Come meet friends you haven’t seen in ages.
2. Mr. Girdwood’s great grandson, Ned Pierce, visited the Roundhouse this summer. He plans to help develop a DVD based on the Girdwood Community. He will need our assistance with this project. There is a four-drawer file cabinet full of historical documents to archive and possibly use for this effort. This project is to begin in January.
It’s great to have the Roundhouse opened for the winter season. The operating hours will be weekend and holiday periods, from 11:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. For further information, please visit our website at www.roundhouseatalyeska.org. See you there!
